Lighten Up That Dark Kitchen
If your kitchen is like most 70's style kitchens your cabinets are dark stained, your countertops are dark and worn laminate, and your floor is dated vinyl. Doesn't sound or feel like a very inviting place to work or hang out with friends and family. If you want to design a kitchen that is both light and comfortable the first thing to consider is a light toned cabinet.
Think about in stalling natural stained wood or white cabinets. A natural maple or oak cabinet would be a perfect choice to make your kitchen seem larger and lighten up the area. Next think about installing a new countertop. You can go a little darker here to help hide any scratches that may occur someday. You can get an inexpensive laminate countertop that mimics the look of granite at a third of the cost. Think about installing under the counter lighting to light up the work area.
Next add a medium colored floor for the finishing touch. You can go with a medium laminate floor that will look beautiful and tie in the rest of your design. Now you have a light, airy and inviting kitchen that people will naturally want to hang out in.
