More Healthcare Institutes Need to Use EMRs
The slow rate of adoption of electronic medical records in the American healthcare system may be seen as alarming to some. Less than 10% of the hospitals in United States are using healthcare information technology while only 16% of primary care doctors use a electronic medical records system. For the remainder health care transactions are still taking place on paper, a system that originated in the 1950s and has not changed significantly since. The reasons behind this are complex - however it is troublesome that he healthcare sector has lagged behind other industries such as finance in the adoption of IT, when patient care is at stake.
